A young asylum seeker 'ages out' the day they turn 18 and cannot be kept in an ICE juvenile detention centre so they are released into the care of the La Posada shelter, supported by CWS.
This young man's birthday present is to be sent on his way to a sponsor in the US. This is often a journey of two or three days on Greyhound buses, and La Posada makes sure the young people go with a CWS blanket and some food and drink for the journey.
Here Aaron Tate, CWS Program Director, speaks with a young man celebrating his 18th birthday and about to leave the shelter.
