This mining area near Bonn is Europe’s greatest source of CO2 emissions. While there is very broad concensus that we need to stop mining coal, coal mines such as this continue to expand, and finance for fossil fuels extraction is still available, in many countries there are subsidies for fossil fuels but not renewable energy.

“The Rev Tafue Lusamo reminds me, that if you save Tuvalu you save the whole world. Tuvalu should be a warning or a red light to us. It’s not just about putting a negotiation for financing, deputation, mitigation. Let’s shift the discussion and focus on the people instead of the economy or the development or other issues that are prolonging these negotiations about climate change.”<br />
“I think it’s also important that we speak to the global north, that you need to speak to your government. We will take care of our government, we will talk to our government. We would also like that you do the same with your governments.”
