"My name is Joe Ware, I'm the Church and Campaigns journalist at Christian Aid based in London. Weíre all here to get the world on track to a low-carbon planet, one that will tackle climate change and its effects. Itís not just about bringing down emissions, itís also about dealing with the effects that weíve already created, and helping those communities that are suffering the consequences. After 21 attempts, weíre finally at a big meeting where weíre hopeful we are going to get an actual deal which will put us on that pathway. The most important thing is a political signal to the world that this is the direction we are going in. Itís already happening outside of this conference with investors and businesses and all sorts of exciting developments and weíre here to make sure that the politicians and the governments can actually get it written down on paper and make that signal concrete for the world to see.
Christian Aid is an anti-poverty charity that looks at the cause of poverty, climate change is a cause that we work on and weíre passionate about seeing it get fixed. Weíre fortunate enough to have some very well qualified policy and advocacy staff working with us, and they engage in the process. We believe in tackling the structural causes of poverty. If we can get a good deal, it will make the lives of poor people better around the world."
