A miner does a traditional test in a "cacho", a cow horn, to check for gold particles in gold ore. In artisanal gold mining in La Libertad, Chontales, Nicaragua, miners extract ore from open cast and underground mines, and crush and mill the ore to extract the gold with mercury.
